Blue Dog Days of Summer...

Just a note to thank everyone who came out to see us in May, June, and July--and to wish everyone a wonderful rest of your summer! Like you, we like a little time off when the Dog Days arrive...so we'll take a break from shows through the month of August, but will be back in action this Fall, starting with The Music Farm/Columbia SC on 9/11/15, and of course ramping up with anticipation to our 3rd Annual Homecoming at the Charleston Music Hall on Sunday, December 27! But don't worry, we'll be checking in, and keeping the merch store open, and answering any inquiries about bookings or anything else. Stay in touch, and get your CMH show tickets soon, as we are back to doing just one show and know it will sell out sooner than later! Be safe, and we'll see you soon.

JULY 24-25: Raleigh & Charlotte!

Ladies and Gentledogs, The full band hits the weekend trail one more time before we take our traditional August summer break....and before Hank Futch heads North for his new adventures....so come join us for a great weekend of summer jams and a rousing send-off for our boy Hank...and speaking of old school, we are coming back to Raleigh and going back in time to the Pour House, the site of some awesome Blue Dogs shows....we think it's the perfect time and place to come back to Raleighwood. And on Saturday, we'll return to the Neighborhood Theatre and look forward to a great show as usual....opening bands each night, Friday the Nasty Habits, a local Raleigh Americana band, and Saturday our friends Finnegan Bell, an incredible SC folk-rock band. FOR BOTH NIGHTS, advance tickets are $5 cheaper, so go to the "shows" page and click on the appropriate link. SEE you next weekend!

Dearest Dog People,

First of all, THANK YOU for being one of the nearly 2500 folks who joined us for our two 26th Anniversary shows last December and our 25th Anniversary show in December 2013. Without you, there is no show, no band, no Blue Dogs! And because of you, we literally have had some of the greatest nights of our lives as musicians. It means so much to us to have a full house of friends, fans, and family, and then to have all these musicians and friends come out and spend the evening with us—it has been incredible.

When we planned our 25th anniversary show in 2013, we realized that we had found the ANNUAL EVENT we had been searching for our whole career. We have always wanted to host a musical happening in Charleston that would be an annual homecoming of sorts. One that would allow us to hang out with other musicians and our families and friends and make some kind of special noise together.
You helped make that dream come true.

In an effort to solidify this event as an annual affair, and turn it into a charitable event, we partnered last year with MUSC’s Children’s Hospital, which will be the beneficiary of all proceeds beyond expenses. Our friends at TITO’S Handmade Vodka came on board to help in the effort.

SO: our 3rd Annual HOMECOMING Show this year will take place at the Charleston Music Hall on Sunday, December 27, 2015. We will only be performing ONE NIGHT this year, so make sure to get your tickets early! We have a LIMITED TIME offer for everyone who attended shows the past two years—starting TUESDAY JULY 7, you have first access to tickets, but only until THURSDAY JULY 9, when they go on sale to Charleston Music Hall patrons, and then to the public on FRIDAY JULY 10. We are working on plans for this year which we will share with you very soon, but rest assured you’ll get plenty of Blue Dogs and as many special guests and special moments as we can bring onto the stage this year.  More VIP tickets are available this year—they include premium seating, a pre-show reception, a show poster and a commemorative laminate.

Over the past two years some of our oldest musical friends, including Edwin McCain, Darius Rucker, Hootie and the Blowfish, Radney Foster, Doug Jones, Danielle Howle, Pat McGee, Wallace Mullinax, Bryson Jennings, Sadler Vaden and a host of other talented musicians from SC have joined us on stage, so watch out for announcements about special guests that will join us for our third annual homecoming event.

We’ll do it all again this December. We look forward to sharing another special time with you and your friends and families!

Have a great rest of the summer, and we’ll see you soon.

FRANCIS MARION INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL @ FMU PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (day)

Florence, SC

NEW LOCATION: FMU Performing Arts Center, Downtown Florence

Preparations for Francis Marion University’s Arts International festival in downtown Florence are underway. The longstanding festival, one of the Pee Dee’s great spring traditions, will bring its regular mix of art, music and food to its new location on April 11. The 38-year-old festival has been held in previous year on FMU’s campus. Activities will now center on FMU’s Performing Arts Center. The festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. There is no admission charge and all the entertainment is free and open to the public. There is a charge for food and craft items that are on sale. The premier event at this year’s festival will be a 2 p.m. performance by the Blue Dogs in the PAC’s amphitheatre. The “Dogs” are an earthy, Southern rock band from South Carolina, and a well-known favorite of Pee Dee music fans. FMU’s Music Industry Ensemble and the Celtic rock band Stirling Bridge are also slated to perform in the PAC amphitheatre. The FMU String Ensemble, Vocal Edition, pianist Paolo Gualdi, violinist Terris Roberts and pianist Sumire Worman are all scheduled to perform in the PAC Black Box. Other scheduled acts include the Jabali African Acrobats, the Chief Kamu Fire and Hula Show and the Chinese Acrobats. They will offer festivalgoers a unique perspective on arts from around the world on the festival’s International Stage. A variety of strolling musicians and performers will patrol the festival area, providing impromptu entertainment throughout the day. Other events will include Florence-Darlington Technical College’s famous welding sculpture competition. The competition will feature teams of experienced craftsmen who will create breathtaking pieces of art on the fly, using a pile of scrap material brought in for the occasion. Also on tap: an arts and crafts fair featuring the work of local and regional artisans, children’s activities, art displays in the Florence County Museum and Waters Building Annex, and an international food court. The City of Florence is joining FMU as a major festival participant for this year’s events. Other sponsors include FDTC; St. John’s Episcopal Church, which is providing space for festival parking and events; Honda of SC; Nan Ya Plastics; Florence County; Pepsi Cola of Florence; and the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau. The festival is the union of two former festivals, Art’s Alive and the Pee Dee International Festival. Its roots date back to 1977. For more information on this year’s Arts International festival, go to http://www.fmarion.edu/news/artsinternational.
